A 22-year-old Keeau man is in police custody after an elderly Hilo woman reported a burglary at her home.
In response to a 7 p.m. Sunday call, officers determined an unknown person had entered the woman’s Waiakea home while she was away and took jewelry and money.
Police recovered the jewelry on Monday and arrested Taylor Kalawe.
He was charged Tuesday with first-degree burglary and second-degree theft. His bail was set at $7,000, and his initial court appearance was Wednesday.
